Information

Multimodal AI systems often try to scale by adding ever more data sources, agents, and tools. But a larger bundle of components does not automatically produce more useful or reliable capability. The greater opportunity is compounding: each new specialized capability should not merely add its own value, but expand what existing capabilities can accomplish through safe combination. The architectural aim is not linear accumulation, but exponential growth in what the platform can do as those combinations multiply.

This talk presents the thinking behind GMIND—Gilead’s Multimodal Insight Network for Drug Development—an agent-first platform designed to grow from individual, high-value use cases into an expanding system whose capabilities become more powerful together. Drawing on lessons from document generation, study simulation, and other drug-development workflows, it explores how GMIND balances deep specialization with cross-capability composition, agentic flexibility with prescriptive process, and rapid expansion with the reliability and control required in pharmaceutical R&D. Attendees will leave with practical principles for building multimodal AI platforms whose capabilities grow faster than their component count—not merely systems that accumulate more disconnected features.
