The Two Singularities, Future, And Far Future Of AI
Information
This talk will describe how there is not one Singularity but two and will also make predictions about the far future of AI.
The Singularity is the point in time where progress in AI becomes uncontrollable and irreversible. We are in the midst of Singularity 1 now. Many predictions regarding the timing of Singularity 2 have been made, although these involve substantial amounts of guesswork. What can be more reliably predicted are the necessary conditions for reaching Singularity 2, which include robotic embodiment of AI and analogical thinking. Certain assumptions about the results of Singularity 2 are incorrect. These include the assumptions that a superior intelligence will always seek to eliminate a lesser intelligence and that entities with a higher intelligence will always prevail. Realistic methods for protecting against dangerous AI will be discussed.
The far future will include four intelligences, not two. These are, biological, machine, machine augmented biological, and biological augmented machine.
